The Kuching Magistrates’ Court today sentenced a 47-year-old man to three months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt by slapping an 11-year-old boy.
The accused, Zaiden Amran, entered his plea before Magistrate Shafiza Abdul Razak Tready. The charge was brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
The court heard that the incident occurred at approximately 9.30 pm on 11 March in Kampung Asajaya Ulu, Asajaya. The confrontation was sparked by the accused’s suspicion that the young boy had punctured one of the tyres on his van.
Despite the victim’s firm denial—which was corroborated by several witnesses at the scene—the accused proceeded to assault the child. Police investigations later confirmed that Zaiden admitted to slapping the boy three times on the left cheek in the presence of the victim’s friends.

The assault left the 11-year-old with bruising and visible slap marks on his face, as well as pain in his right arm. Following the incident, the victim received medical treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital. A police report lodged by the boy’s father subsequently led to the arrest of the accused.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Fadzri Azham Zainudin appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by legal counsel Arthur Liang Dawat.
