A 68-year-old unemployed man was sentenced to three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after he pleaded guilty to injuring his neighbour by slashing his hand with a parang over a parking dispute.
Magistrate Arun Noval Dass handed down the sentence after considering the facts of the case, the accused’s plea, and the victim’s injuries.
The accused, Lim Huat Seng, 68, who is single, was charged with intentionally causing injury to a 70-year-old man using a parang at a house in Kampung Sungai Ayam at about 7am on April 3.
The offence falls under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of two of the punishments upon conviction.
Based on the facts of the case, the incident occurred after the victim allegedly parked his car in front of the accused’s house, which angered him.
The accused then allegedly swung a parang at the victim, striking his palm and causing heavy bleeding.
The victim was rushed to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail (HSNI) for treatment, with medical reports confirming injuries consistent with the assault.
Police arrested the accused at about 1.30pm on the same day, not far from the scene of the incident.
The weapon used in the attack was later recovered by police, who found it hidden at the bottom of a river after being led to the location by the accused.
