The main suspect in the robbery and rape of a 20-year-old woman near the Similajau Forest Reserve late last month has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bintulu District Police Headquarters (IPD) yesterday afternoon.
Bintulu District Police Chief Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali said the 50-year-old man was detained at 2.30 p.m. in a public area in Sibu.
“Following intelligence and surveillance efforts over the past five days, the police successfully tracked down and arrested the suspect to assist in the investigation,” he said.
According to Nixon, the incident occurred around 9 p.m., when the suspect impersonated a police officer and deceived the victim by offering financial assistance. He then lured her to a secluded area, where he allegedly robbed and raped her.
Nixon advised the public, especially women, not to trust anyone claiming to be a government official unless proper identification is shown.
The case is being investigated under Sections 392/376 and 170 of the Penal Code for robbery, rape, and impersonating a public officer.
