Man Rescued After Three-Day Kidnapping Over Gambling Debt In Kuala Lumpur

Date:

A 36-year-old Chinese national endured a terrifying ordeal after being allegedly held captive for three days inside a serviced apartment unit in Kuala Lumpur, reportedly due to his role as a guarantor for a friend’s gambling debt.

The victim was rescued by police in a raid conducted at a unit in Sunway Velocity along Jalan Peel at about 9pm last Friday. The operation led to the arrest of two local men believed to be involved in the incident.

Cheras District Police Chief ACP Mohd Rosdi Daud said initial investigations revealed that the victim had acted as a guarantor for a friend who allegedly owed RM100,000 in gambling-related debt.

Tensions escalated when the friend is believed to have fled without settling the debt, after which the victim was allegedly detained by suspects as leverage to force repayment.

Police said the victim was held for approximately three days before being rescued during the coordinated operation.

During the raid, officers arrested two Malaysian men aged 30 and seized several items, including house keys, access cards and two mobile phones believed to be linked to the case.

The case is being investigated under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement. Both suspects have been remanded for three days, while police are continuing efforts to trace the main suspect who remains at large.
