A 53-year-old man believed to be suffering from mental health issues was seriously injured after falling from the fifth floor of a flat at Taman Seri Perak, Jelutong, on Saturday evening.
In the incident, which occurred at about 6.53pm, the victim is understood to have fallen and landed on the roof of a first-floor structure within the residential building.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department (Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia) operations assistant director John Sagun Francis said emergency services received a distress call at 6.53pm, prompting a team from the Jalan Perak fire station to be dispatched to the scene.
He said the fire engine arrived about 10 minutes later and found the man lying on the lower-level roof after reportedly falling from the fifth floor.
A rescue team then carried out evacuation operations using a stretcher and specialised rescue equipment to safely bring the victim down.
According to authorities, the man was found unconscious with injuries to multiple parts of his body. He was subsequently handed over to the Health Ministry medical team on site before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The operation, involving eight firefighters including a supervising officer, concluded at 7.38pm after the scene was secured and the victim removed for medical care.
