A 37-year-old woman is in an induced coma after her boyfriend allegedly set her on fire near a toll plaza, leaving both severely injured. The 44-year-old suspect also suffered critical burns and is in an induced coma.
Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh, said authorities received a report of a car fire near the Simpang Renggam toll plaza at 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday. A bus driver reported that the suspect pulled the woman off the bus, doused her with petrol, and ignited her.
A third man, in his 30s, sustained burns to his hands and legs while trying to intervene. All three were rushed to the hospital around 6 a.m. The woman and her boyfriend were placed in induced comas due to the severity of their injuries.
Police are investigating the incident as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine.
