Man Sparks Outrage For Putting Foot On Escalator Handrail At MTR Station

Date:

A man has drawn heavy criticism online after he was spotted performing stretching exercises while riding an escalator at MTR’s Admiralty Station.

Photos of the incident were shared on social media platform Threads earlier this week, where users described the behaviour as dangerous, unhygienic and inconsiderate to other commuters.

According to the person who uploaded the images, the man repeatedly switched between stretching his left and right legs while standing on the escalator.

The photos showed the backpack-carrying man placing one foot directly onto the escalator handrail while balancing on the other leg in a risky one-legged stance.

The incident reportedly occurred on one of the station’s long escalators, with several commuters allegedly forced to ask the man to move aside in order to pass safely.

Many netizens slammed the behaviour online, accusing the man of blocking public pathways and creating unnecessary danger for nearby passengers.

Some commenters expressed concern that the man could lose his balance and fall onto other commuters on the crowded escalator.

Others criticised the hygiene aspect of placing shoes directly onto public handrails used by thousands of passengers daily.

The original poster also admitted feeling nervous while passing by the man, fearing he could suddenly lose balance and trigger a serious accident involving people standing behind him.

The bizarre incident quickly went viral across Hong Kong social media, with many users calling the act reckless and irresponsible in a busy public transport area.
