Man Steals Over MYR 223,000 From Cousin’s House to Pay for His Wedding

Date:

A man in Karnataka stole gold and cash worth about Rs 4.7 million (over RM223,000) from his own relative’s house — all because he wanted to marry his girlfriend.

The suspect, 22-year-old Shreyas, had been in a relationship with a woman for four years. Desperate to afford their wedding expenses, he decided to break into the home of his cousin, Harish, who also happened to be the owner of the shop where Shreyas worked.

According to police, the burglary took place on September 15 while Harish was away. “The suspect broke into the residence and stole around 416 grams of gold and Rs 346,000 in cash — a total estimated value of Rs 4.7 million,” officers told NDTV.

Following a police report, Hebbagodi Police launched an investigation and arrested Shreyas at his home in Gattihalli.

Investigations revealed that Shreyas had pawned some of the stolen gold and deposited the cash into a finance company and a bank. He had also given part of the loot to his girlfriend, who lives in Bannerghatta.

During interrogation, Shreyas admitted to fabricating fake evidence, including CCTV footage, in an attempt to mislead police and cover his tracks.

Authorities later recovered all the stolen jewelry and cash. The suspect is currently in custody for further investigation.
