Man Swept Away In 4WD by Floodwaters While Three Others Escape Alive

Date:

A man has died while three others survived after their vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in Kampung Sungai Udin, Merotai, last night.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said his team received an emergency call at 9:34 pm about a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle attempting to cross a flooded area. “The vehicle, which was carrying two motorcyclists along with their motorcycles, was swept away by the current,” he explained.

Firefighters arrived at the scene, located about 47 kilometres away, at 10:47 pm. They found four male victims involved in the incident, including the two motorcyclists. Three were rescued safely, but one motorcyclist went missing.

The missing man’s body was later found by a plantation worker at 7:15 am today, roughly 800 metres from where he was swept away. Authorities handed the body over to the police, and the rescue operation concluded at 8:44 am.
