A man known by the online nickname “Hsiao-Chiang” has been sentenced to three years and two months in prison after he sexually assaulted a woman he met through a dating app. The assault occurred after the victim, known as Ms. Hua (a pseudonym), rejected his romantic advances, leading him to seek revenge by luring her into a trap.
According to court documents, the two met on a dating app in September 2023 and met in person twice. During one of those meetings, the woman accompanied him home and pretended to be his girlfriend to make his grandfather happy. Later, when Hsiao-Chiang confessed his feelings, she rejected him and blocked him online — a move that deeply angered him.
In early October, the man created a fake profile under the name “Sincere Girlfriend Search” and messaged Ms. Hua, offering her NT$2,500 for sex. When she declined after sensing something suspicious, he suggested meeting for a simple jog at an elementary school playground, still promising the same payment. Believing it was safe, she agreed and went to the location.
Upon arrival, Hsiao-Chiang instructed her to move to a nearby garage. When she approached, he dragged her into his car and sexually assaulted her. Despite her repeated attempts to push him away and resist, she was overpowered.
During the assault, one of the man’s family members briefly entered the garage. Hsiao-Chiang told Ms. Hua to remain quiet until they left, after which he continued the assault. When it was over, he threw NT$2,500 at her and ordered her to leave. She later called a friend for help and reported the incident to the police.
Investigators revealed that afterward, the man messaged her using the fake account, saying: “Now you know who I am,” and “Because you blocked me… that’s why I did this to you.” His words confirmed that he intentionally deceived her to get revenge.
The court ruled that sexual autonomy requires clear and affirmative consent, stating that the victim’s rejection and resistance were obvious. The judge noted that the defendant exploited the victim’s trust and severely violated her bodily integrity.
Hsiao-Chiang was convicted of forcible sexual intercourse and sentenced to three years and two months in prison.
