Man Uses Python to Scare Rohingya Beggars in Viral Terengganu Video

Date:

A video showing a man using a python to scare beggars in Terengganu has gone viral, sparking strong reactions online. In the footage, captured by a passerby in a car, the man can be seen pursuing the beggars while the person recording the scene laughs. The man carrying the python stopped the chase once the beggars escaped.

The video has been widely shared on social media platforms, including @utusanmelayuplus on Threads, which captioned the clip, “The beggars would return the next day.” The post suggested that the individuals in the video are Rohingya refugees residing in the district.

Public opinion has been sharply divided. Some viewers expressed support for the man, claiming the beggars had previously behaved rudely, while others criticized the act as degrading and unnecessary.

One social media user wrote, “Don’t laugh about it. They’re still human, they’re Muslims. Must you really do that? If you don’t want to help, that’s fine, but leave them alone.” Another commented, “This isn’t good, brother…we should find solutions for them instead of mocking them.”

According to the Asia Media Centre, Malaysia hosts the second-largest population of Rohingya refugees globally. While the government has not released official statistics, estimates from 2023 suggest there are between 100,000 and 200,000 Rohingya refugees in the country, compared with a few thousand in Indonesia and only several hundred in Thailand.
