A Sun Country Airlines flight from Minneapolis to Newark, New Jersey, was forced to make an emergency landing in Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport after a passenger caused chaos mid-flight.
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the man began shouting shortly after takeoff, claiming he was being “tracked by gay groups” and that “they were using radiation to give him cancer.” Witnesses said he was wearing around 15 layers of masks and appeared highly agitated.
Passenger Seth Evans recounted that the man repeatedly stood up and yelled phrases like “The plane is going to crash!” and “Trump is here!” — then oddly sat down to play Candy Crush before shouting again, sending the cabin into panic.
The flight crew decided to divert the plane to Chicago, where police boarded and handcuffed the unruly passenger. Other travelers were briefly questioned before the flight resumed its journey to Newark.
Sun Country Airlines later released a statement confirming the incident, saying:
“After the flight landed safely, the disruptive passenger was handed over to law enforcement. We thank our customers for their patience during the delay.”
The flight eventually departed again and arrived safely at its destination.
