A married elementary school teacher in Kaohsiung sparked a scandal after engaging in an affair with the school’s accounting officer, with the two frequently meeting at motels and exchanging explicit photos and messages. Her husband, upon discovering the infidelity, filed a lawsuit seeking MYR 120,000 (approx. NT$80,000) in compensation.
The court found that the accounting officer knowingly pursued a married woman, seriously infringing on her spouse’s rights, and ordered him to pay MYR 45,000 (approx. NT$30,000) in damages. The case can still be appealed.
According to the ruling, the teacher, who married in 2006 and has two children, began her affair with the accounting officer in December 2022. She initiated contact, openly expressed affection, and met him multiple times at motels and boutique hotels for sexual encounters.
The teacher also shared intimate photos and sent explicit messages, at times referring to themselves as “husband” and “wife” in the chats. Her actions were discovered when the accounting officer’s wife accessed his phone in October 2023, uncovering their private exchanges. She posed as her husband to test the teacher, prompting panic and eventual confession, exposing the affair.
The teacher’s husband claimed the affair caused him to develop panic disorder. However, the court reviewed medical records and found his condition was linked to family debts and the passing of his mother, not directly to the infidelity. The court ultimately held the accounting officer responsible for MYR 45,000 in emotional damages, denying the remainder of the claim.
