The Malaysian Disabled Youth Council (MBOKU) plans to expand the establishment of one-stop centres nationwide to serve as primary reference hubs for people with disabilities (PWD).
MBOKU president Ghazali Othman said that currently, a dedicated one-stop centre for PWD is only available at Universiti Sains Malaysia Kubang Kerian Specialist Hospital.
He explained that the centre provides the public, government agencies, and private sector employers with information on job opportunities, healthcare services, and assistance related to criminal cases involving PWD.
“MBOKU will collaborate with state Disabled Councils and relevant ministries to establish one-stop centres nationwide as a platform to disseminate information to the community,” Ghazali said after the Disability Training Workshop Programme at Dewan Bakti, Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Kota Bharu today.
Ghazali emphasized that the initiative is vital to ensure both PWD and the public have easy access to referral services, advice, and support resources in their local areas.
The centres will also serve employers, youth, or individuals who have experienced accidents and are certified as PWD, helping them access doctor referrals, treatment information, and suitable job opportunities.
Ghazali also urged employers to continue offering job opportunities to PWD graduates based on their qualifications and abilities.
“We recognize that PWD graduates face challenges in finding employment, but they possess the skills and potential to contribute to the country’s economic development if given opportunities in both the public and private sectors,” he said.
