The final day of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly sitting erupted into chaos after an opposition representative cited a police report alleging that a state assemblyman was involved in an affair with a married woman — an accusation that has been circulating on social media.
Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis (PN–Rembia) raised the allegation during his winding-up speech, prompting immediate and heated exchanges across the chamber. Several assembly members called for stern action against him for breaching assembly rules.
Deputy Speaker Kerk Chee Yee then invoked Assembly Rule 20(1)(m)(1) against Muhammad Jailani for making malicious personal accusations against another assemblyman.
Tensions flared after Muhammad Jailani referred to a police report lodged by a man claiming his wife was involved with a state assemblyman.
State exco member Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh (BN–Merlimau) strongly condemned the remarks, calling Muhammad Jailani an unreliable figure and accusing him of ignoring the real issues faced by the people of Rembia.
“He should focus on matters affecting his constituents, not sensational personal claims that intrude on private lives,” he said.
Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halim (BN–Duyong) later revealed that the woman implicated in the allegation had lodged a counter police report denying the claims, adding that the issue is now sub judice.
He noted that Muhammad Jailani had breached Assembly Rule 20(1)(g), which bars members from discussing matters before the court, as well as Rule 20(1)(m)(1) for making baseless personal accusations.
A series of government bloc representatives — including Datuk Rais Yasin, Datuk Abd Razak Abd Rahman, Datuk Khaidirah Abu Zahar, Datuk VP Shanmugam, Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, and Datuk Zaidi Attan — also rebuked Muhammad Jailani for his conduct.
Following the escalating dispute, Deputy Speaker Kerk cut short Muhammad Jailani’s speech and moved on to the winding-up session of Datuk Siti Faizah Abd Azis (BN–Sungai Rambai).
