Police have confirmed that the unidentified female body found in the Klang River yesterday belongs to a 23-year-old university student who was previously reported missing.
Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan, said in a statement that the victim’s identity was confirmed after cross-referencing a missing persons report lodged by her sister on July 26.
According to the report, the young woman had arranged to be picked up by her sister at the Putra Heights LRT station at 12 noon on July 25, but she never showed up and could no longer be reached by phone.
During an inspection of the body, officers discovered a key in the victim’s trouser pocket, which led them to her residence in Old Klang Road. CCTV footage later confirmed that the victim had been in the area shortly before she disappeared.
Police then asked her family to identify her clothing, and with their confirmation, the victim’s identity was established. Her fingerprints have also been sent to the relevant department for official verification before the body can be handed over to her family.
A post-mortem was carried out at 8am yesterday. Forensic experts found no signs of physical injuries or struggle on the body. However, police are still awaiting the full autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death.
The tragic discovery was made at 11:58am near Mile 13 of Jalan Puchong Batu 13, where a passerby spotted a woman’s body floating face-down on a rock in the Klang River.
