Mother And Daughter Found Dead In Car From Suspected Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Date:

A single mother and her daughter are believed to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning inside a Proton Exora in Melaka late last night.

According to Kosmo!, Zabanah Abu Hussin, 57, and her daughter, Intan Nur Shafiqah Othman, 25, were discovered unconscious in the vehicle by passersby around midnight.

Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said police received a MERS 999 call at 12.24am and dispatched a patrol team to the scene.

“Upon arrival, officers found that the two women had already died. Their deaths were confirmed by a medical officer from Melaka Hospital. They were a mother and daughter residing in Taman Kelemak Jaya, Alor Gajah,” he said.

Dzulkhairi added that the victims are believed to have suffocated from carbon monoxide after stopping to rest without turning off the car’s engine.

“The engine and air-conditioning were still running when they were found, with the windows shut and both women lying in the front seats,” he said.

The bodies have been sent to Melaka Hospital’s forensic unit for post-mortem examination conducted this morning. The case has been classified as sudden death.
