A horrifying child abuse case has emerged in Alicante, Spain, where a mother is accused of repeatedly pouring irritating liquids into her 2-year-old son’s eyes over several months, causing severe eye injuries. Shockingly, police investigations also revealed that the mother may have harmed her 7-year-old daughter, who is now blind, sparking outrage in the local community.
According to reports, the 27-year-old mother was arrested by national police in Alicante for allegedly abusing her young son. Since August 2025, the boy had been admitted multiple times to Alicante’s Hospital General de Elche, where doctors discovered eye injuries, including keratoconjunctivitis, suspected to be intentionally inflicted. Authorities immediately initiated child protection procedures and reported the case to the court, which issued a restraining order against the mother before her arrest.
Further investigation revealed that the mother had arrived in Alicante from Algeria in February 2020 with her now-7-year-old daughter, whose blindness is suspected to also result from abuse, possibly involving chemical substances. Authorities suspect that the mother may have repeatedly inflicted harm on multiple children.
Police are also considering whether the mother might suffer from a form of Munchausen by proxy, a condition in which caregivers fabricate or deliberately induce symptoms in others to satisfy psychological needs through medical attention.
The 2-year-old boy has since been discharged from the hospital with his eye condition improving and is now under the care of public authorities in a foster family. The mother, meanwhile, has not yet given testimony following her arrest.
