Motorcyclist Hits 8-Year-Old Crossing Road To School, Police Hunt Rider

Date:

Police are tracking down a motorcyclist who struck an eight-year-old schoolgirl as she was crossing the road in front of a school in Permatang Pauh on Tuesday.

Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris, said initial investigations showed the incident occurred during school dismissal hours.

“At the time of the incident, the student was crossing the road with a friend when she was hit by a motorcycle. As a result, the victim sustained minor injuries to her left ankle. A police report has been lodged, and efforts to trace the motorcyclist involved are underway,” he said in a statement today.

Helmi urged any witnesses or members of the public with information to come forward and contact the Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Traffic Department or Investigating Officer Sergeant Azrol Md Rejab at 019-5429571 to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59).

Earlier, a 42-second video of the accident went viral on Facebook, showing a security guard stopping vehicles to allow two girls to cross the road. However, a motorcyclist failed to stop and collided with one of the pupils, causing her to fall onto the road and sustain minor injuries.
