Motorcyclist Killed, Five Injured After Driver Falls Asleep In Padang Jambu Multi-Vehicle Crash

Date:

A 44-year-old motorcyclist died and five others were injured in a collision involving three motorcycles and three cars at the Padang Jambu traffic light intersection.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Christopher Patit identified the victim as Mohd Shahrol Anuar Md Roby, who succumbed to severe injuries at the scene while riding a Honda EX5.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of a Perodua Myvi may have momentarily fallen asleep or experienced microsleep, causing the vehicle to swerve into the opposite lane and collide with multiple vehicles stopped at the traffic light.

Two other motorcyclists, both 25, sustained injuries to their right legs. The driver of a Proton Saga, a 48-year-old woman, suffered forehead injuries and shoulder pain, while the driver of a BMW escaped unhurt. The Myvi driver, aged 35, sustained minor elbow abrasions.

Breathalyzer and drug tests on the Myvi driver returned negative results, but blood samples have been taken for further toxicology testing. Dashcam footage from a witness has also been obtained.

The victim’s body has been sent to Melaka Hospital for post-mortem examination. All vehicles involved were taken to Malim Police Station before being sent to Puspakom for inspection.

The Myvi driver will be brought to court for a remand application, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
