The Sessions Court in Selayang today fined a local company RM10,000 for selling coffee found to be laced with tadalafil, a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction.
OSW Trade Marketing & Supply director Teh Yew Sim pleaded guilty to the charge involving a product known as Kopi Jantan Tradisional (Healthy Man Coffee) before judge Norazlin Othman, according to New Straits Times.
The court heard that in August last year, 40 sachets of the coffee, priced at RM132, were sold to an authorised officer during an enforcement operation.
Laboratory tests later revealed that the product contained 1,310.61 mg/kg of tadalafil, a controlled substance classified as a Group B poison under the Poisons Act.
The offence occurred at a premises in Batu Caves, Gombak, at about noon on August 11, 2025.
Teh was charged under Section 13B(1) of the Food Act, read together with Section 13B(2)(d), which carries a maximum penalty of a RM20,000 fine, up to five years’ imprisonment, or both, under Section 13(4) of the Act.
Deputy public prosecutor VS Vivig Dinesh told the court that tadalafil may only be prescribed by registered medical practitioners and warned that the illegal addition of poisons into food products is an increasing trend driven by profit motives, posing serious risks to public health.
Teh, who was unrepresented, was ordered to pay the RM10,000 fine or face a distress warrant in default.
