In a move to ease the travel burden for those returning to their hometowns, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today announced a 50% discount on toll charges nationwide in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
The initiative is expected to involve a financial implication of approximately RM21.03 million, which the government will pay as compensation to toll concessionaires.
Motorists can enjoy the reduced rates starting from 12.01 am on 18 March, with the incentive concluding at 11.59 pm on 19 March. The two-day window is designed to help holidaymakers plan their journeys more effectively while managing the cost of living during the festive season.
This announcement follows earlier government efforts to facilitate a smoother “balik kampung” experience, including the gazetting of an additional public holiday and the implementation of price controls on essential festive goods.
The Prime Minister expressed his hope that these measures would bring greater convenience and joy to Malaysians as they reunite with their families for the Syawal festivities.
