A closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording has gone viral on social media, capturing a dramatic accident involving a Perodua Bezza and a Proton Saga at Jalan Berek 12 yesterday.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 10.23 am, began when a blue Perodua Bezza entered the left lane, followed closely by a Proton Saga travelling in the same direction.
The routine traffic flow was suddenly disrupted when an elderly male pedestrian attempted to cross the road without checking for oncoming vehicles. This unexpected movement forced the driver of the Perodua Bezza to perform an emergency brake to avoid a direct collision with the man.
Due to the sudden halt, the driver of the Proton Saga behind was unable to react in time, resulting in a high-impact rear-end collision. Visuals from the recording indicate significant damage to the front of the Proton Saga, while the extent of the damage to the Perodua Bezza remains unconfirmed.
The footage has drawn sharp criticism from netizens as the pedestrian, who appeared to be the primary cause of the emergency braking, was seen walking away from the scene immediately without offering any assistance or checking on the welfare of the drivers.
The clip has sparked a heated debate in the comments section regarding road safety and liability. While many users expressed frustration at the pedestrian’s perceived negligence and lack of accountability, others highlighted the importance of maintaining a safe following distance to prevent such accidents.
The police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or confirm if any police reports have been lodged by the affected parties.
