A newborn baby girl was discovered abandoned inside a rubbish bin in front of a residence at Taman Putra Ampang on Wednesday. The Ampang Jaya District Police received an official report regarding the distressing find from a local man at approximately 6.27 pm. Upon discovery, the infant was found to be alive with her umbilical cord still attached, indicating she had been born only hours prior.
According to Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid, it is estimated that the baby had been delivered roughly four hours before she was found. Following the discovery, emergency protocols were initiated to ensure the infant received immediate medical attention. She was swiftly transported to Ampang Hospital for a comprehensive health assessment and necessary clinical care.
The authorities have confirmed that the baby is currently in a stable condition while remaining under close medical observation at the hospital. This quick intervention by the witness and the medical team has been crucial in safeguarding the life of the newborn. Meanwhile, the police have initiated a formal investigation to identify those responsible for the abandonment.
Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar stated that the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, which pertains to the exposure and abandonment of a child under twelve years of age. This legal framework addresses the serious nature of the act and the potential endangerment of the minor’s life.
