Nine Involved In Multi-Vehicle Accident In Penang

Three individuals were injured in a multi-vehicle accident involving six vehicles along Jalan Besar Permatang Tinggi, Penang on Friday morning.

The incident, which occurred at around 8am, involved three cars and three motorcycles, with a total of nine individuals caught up in the collision.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director John Sagun Francis said a team from the Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched immediately after receiving an emergency call at 8am, arriving at the scene about 13 minutes later.

Initial assessments found that no victims were trapped in the crash. Firefighters conducted a size-up operation while wearing full protective gear before administering initial treatment to the injured alongside personnel from the Ministry of Health.

The injured victims were later transported to hospital via ambulance for further medical attention.

Of the nine individuals involved, three male motorcyclists sustained injuries, while the remaining six escaped unharmed. Those injured were identified as riders of a Honda EX5 aged 43, a Yamaha LC135 aged 21, and a Yamaha Y15Z aged 25.

Others involved in the accident, including drivers of a Proton Saga (29) and a Perodua Myvi (38), as well as a 64-year-old female passenger, did not suffer any injuries.

Authorities also noted that another vehicle believed to be involved had left the scene before rescue teams arrived.

The operation, involving six firefighters and a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), concluded at approximately 9am, with police and Health Ministry personnel also assisting at the scene.
