The Kelantan Police have officially dismissed claims linking the death of a female houseman at a hospital hostel in Kuala Krai to a high-profile sexual harassment case occurring at the same medical facility. Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, clarified that the two incidents are entirely separate matters involving different victims and suspects, despite both occurring within the hospital grounds.
Speaking to reporters following the launch of the Kelantan contingent-level Op Selamat 26/2026 in Tunjong today, Datuk Mohd Yusoff emphasised that there is no direct connection between the two cases. He stated that the investigation into the death of the 29-year-old female trainee doctor is still ongoing, and for the time being, the case remains classified as a sudden death.
The deceased doctor was discovered unresponsive in her hostel room at approximately 9.55 am on 6 March. Since the discovery, authorities have recorded statements from more than 10 individuals to assist in the investigation. The police chief urged the public not to speculate on the cause of death while forensic and investigative work continues to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
In a separate and unrelated legal matter mentioned by the police, a 26-year-old male trainee doctor was charged in the Magistrate’s Court on 11 February. He faces two charges related to sexual harassment and the possession of obscene materials. The first charge alleges that the accused attempted to insult the modesty of a woman by secretly recording her while she was showering at a bathroom in Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra on 13 September 2025.
The harassment charge was framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both. Despite the proximity of the two incidents within the healthcare system, the Kelantan police maintain that the public should distinguish between the criminal proceedings of the harassment case and the active sudden death investigation involving the female houseman.
