One Dead And Five Injured As Perodua Myvi Plunges Into Drain To Avoid Dog

Date:

A 43-year-old foreign national has tragically lost his life following a road accident involving a Perodua Myvi on Jalan Garing, Machap Baru, yesterday afternoon. The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:15 pm, reportedly took place when the vehicle’s driver attempted to avoid a dog crossing the road, leading to a loss of control. Despite being rushed to Alor Gajah Hospital for emergency medical intervention, the victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

According to Malacca Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat, the vehicle was carrying six individuals at the time of the crash. The passengers included five Indonesian nationals and a four-year-old local child who were travelling from the direction of Bukit Beruang towards Tebong. Preliminary investigations suggest that the car veered off the left shoulder of the road and plunged into a roadside drain after the sudden evasive manoeuvre.

The 39-year-old male driver sustained significant injuries to his chest and legs during the impact and remains under medical supervision. Other passengers also suffered various degrees of physical trauma, including a 40-year-old foreign woman who injured her right hand and left leg. Two additional passengers, aged 28 and 52, were reported to have sustained injuries to their faces, ribs, and bodies, requiring further hospitalisation.

Fortunately, the four-year-old child involved in the accident escaped with only minor scratches, though all survivors were transported to Alor Gajah Hospital for comprehensive examinations. The body of the deceased has been moved to the hospital’s forensic unit to undergo a post-mortem examination as part of the standard legal procedure. Authorities are currently investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

The police have issued an appeal to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess relevant information to assist in the ongoing investigation. Individuals are encouraged to contact Inspector Loh Gia Xao, the Investigating Officer at the Alor Gajah District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, at 019-5382353. Alternatively, those with information can visit any nearby police station to provide a formal statement regarding the tragic event.
