One Dead, Three Injured After Trees Fall on Vehicles

Date:

A man was killed and three others, including a child and a teenager, were injured in two separate incidents involving falling trees in Mukah and Kanowit on Thursday night (July 17).

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the first incident occurred in Mukah at 9.04pm, when a tree collapsed onto a motorcyclist. Firefighters from the Mukah station were dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim crushed beneath the fallen tree.

Rescuers cut through the debris to reach the victim, identified as Muhammad Ishaq, a 43-year-old Pakistani national. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel and later handed over to the police.

In a separate incident in Kanowit, Bomba received a distress call at 9.03pm regarding a tree that had fallen onto a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle, injuring three occupants—a 33-year-old woman, a 14-year-old boy, and an eight-year-old girl.

The teenage boy was rescued by members of the public and taken to the hospital before firefighters arrived. The woman and the young girl, who were trapped in the vehicle, were later extricated by firefighters and also transported to the hospital for treatment. All three victims sustained minor injuries.

Authorities are continuing to monitor weather-related risks, especially in areas prone to falling trees during adverse conditions.
