One Killed, Several Hurt As Express Bus And Two Lorries Burst Into Flames On NSE

Date:

A fatal multi-vehicle crash along the North–South Expressway in Selangor claimed one life and left several others injured after a long-distance bus and two lorries were involved in a chain collision that ended in a fire early this morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohamad Idzwan said the department received an emergency call at 5.12am, reporting a serious road accident at KM433 of the expressway heading southbound. A rescue team from the Bukit Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene to carry out emergency operations.

According to him, the crash involved three vehicles — a long-distance express bus, a 10-tonne box lorry and a trailer lorry — all of which sustained varying degrees of damage following the collision and subsequent blaze. Such incidents, he noted, highlight ongoing safety concerns involving heavy vehicles during early morning hours.

Mohamad Idzwan said the express bus was carrying a total of 28 people at the time, comprising 14 adult men, five adult women, seven children and two drivers. One male driver was trapped in the wreckage and suffered severe injuries to his head and left leg. Three male passengers sustained minor injuries mainly to their legs and bodies, while a young girl suffered a nosebleed but remained conscious. All injured bus occupants were taken to hospital for further treatment.

In a separate development, the 10-tonne box lorry was driven by a 39-year-old Malay man who was trapped inside the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel. His body was handed over to the police for further action. The lorry attendant, also a Malay man, sustained rib injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

The trailer lorry driver, identified as an Indian man, was not trapped and only suffered injuries to the back of his neck. Authorities have since handed the case over to the police for further investigation, as traffic authorities continue to remind motorists to remain vigilant, especially when sharing roads with heavy vehicles.
