A Malaysian national has died while another sustained injuries after a helicopter carrying five people crashed in Pililla, Rizal province, in the Philippines on Tuesday morning.
The incident, which also claimed the life of a Filipino passenger, involved a Bell 505 helicopter that reportedly attempted an emergency landing on an open field at about 7.27am. The aircraft had been en route from Manila to Quezon province when the mishap occurred.
Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines, Datuk Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, confirmed that the identity of the deceased Malaysian has been established and that the next of kin have been informed. He said the embassy is extending consular assistance to the victim’s family and is working closely with local authorities to facilitate the necessary arrangements. Such swift coordination is crucial in ensuring that families receive timely updates and support during distressing situations abroad.
Abdul Malik added that the injured Malaysian is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Embassy officials have also visited the survivor to provide support and assistance where needed, reflecting Malaysia’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens overseas.
Earlier, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported that the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has launched an investigation into the emergency landing involving the Bell 505 aircraft.
According to the agency, CAAP’s Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board is conducting a thorough probe, with further details to be released once available. Authorities are expected to examine all aspects of the flight, including technical and operational factors, as part of standard aviation safety procedures.
