Over 155,000 Foreign Nationals Join Malaysia’s PRM 2.0, RM77 Million in Fines Collected

Date:

Over 155,000 foreign nationals have participated in the Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0 (PRM 2.0) to date, with more than 138,000 already repatriated to their home countries.

Deputy Director-General (Operations) of the Immigration Department (JIM), Datuk Lokman Effendi Ramli, revealed that fines collected from foreign participants have generated over RM77 million in revenue for the country.

Bangladeshi nationals topped the participation list, followed by Indonesians. “Most of the foreign nationals joined voluntarily. We have been publicising this programme since last year, and many have taken the opportunity to return home,” he said.

Datuk Lokman added that the programme will remain open until April. “Foreign nationals who have overstayed or do not possess valid visas or permits should take part before the programme closes, as legal action will be taken after that,” he warned.

He made the remarks during a press conference following a JIM enforcement operation at a shopping mall last night.

PRM 2.0 has been running since 19 May 2025 and will continue until 30 April 2026, covering Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Under the programme, a RM500 compound is imposed for entering or staying without a valid permit or overstaying, while a RM300 fine applies for breaching permit conditions. An additional RM20 is charged for the issuance of a Special Pass.

The programme excludes blacklisted individuals, those with outstanding warrants, or those who previously registered for PRM but failed to depart.

Datuk Lokman noted that participation numbers are currently high and are expected to rise as the programme deadline approaches, reflecting trends seen in previous repatriation initiatives. “At this stage, the turnout is significant. We anticipate even more participants by April, as last-minute registrations usually surge toward the end of the programme,” he said.
