A painter was fined RM4,000 by the Magistrate’s Court in Putrajaya on Friday after pleading guilty to assisting in unlicensed moneylending activities last year.
Neo Kok Wah, 48, admitted to the charge before Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah.
The court also ordered that he would face 10 months’ jail if he failed to pay the fine.
According to the charge, the accused was found assisting illegal moneylending operations by possessing and distributing loan cards and pamphlets at Precinct 11, Putrajaya, on October 26, 2025.
The offence was charged under Section 29AA of the Moneylenders Act 1951 read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a maximum fine of RM20,000, or both upon conviction.
Based on the facts of the case, a victim discovered red paint splashed on the walls of his house, the floor, and his vehicle, along with a debt collection note left on the car.
Fearing for his safety, the victim lodged a police report over the incident.
