Penang Man Injured as Shop Roof Collapses While Waiting for Wife

Date:

A Malay man sustained injuries after parts of a shop’s awning suddenly collapsed while he was waiting on his motorcycle for his wife to buy food in Penang.

The incident occurred at around 11.30am on Monday along Windmill Road, in front of a nasi campur eatery. The victim, believed to be in his 40s, was seated on the pedestrian walkway outside the restaurant when the horizontal beam and roof tiles of the awning unexpectedly gave way.

The falling debris struck the man, causing injuries to his neck and left arm. Eyewitnesses said he fell to the ground in pain, prompting members of the public to rush to his aid.

An ambulance was called immediately, and the injured man was transported to Penang General Hospital for treatment. His wife, who was inside the shop packing takeaway food at the time, watched anxiously as the incident unfolded.

Staff from the eatery said they were unsure of the building’s age and could not confirm whether structural deterioration contributed to the collapse. Photos from the scene showed the damaged awning, the injured man being placed on a stretcher, and emergency responders preparing to take him to the hospital. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the collapse.
