Penang Police Bust RM2.1 Million Drug Ring, Arrest 37-Year-Old Man

Penang police have dismantled a drug distribution operation worth RM2.1 million after arresting a 37-year-old local man at a condominium car park here yesterday.

The arrest was conducted by a team from the Penang Narcotics Crime Investigation Department at around 4.25pm.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the suspect’s detention led to the discovery of three bags containing drugs, 550 plastic packets of liquid suspected to be methamphetamine, and ecstasy pills inside a nearby premises.

Also seized were equipment and apparatus used to process vape liquids at the location.

“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to storing drugs in a special compartment in his vehicle. Police discovered two white plastic bags containing 1,800 aluminium foils, each holding 10 suspected Eramin 5 pills. A black plastic bag was also found containing blocks and powder suspected to be ketamine,” Azizee said today.

The total estimated value of the seized drugs is RM2.1 million. The suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Intelligence indicates that the drug distribution network has been active since October last year. The seized drugs could supply more than 100,000 doses.

Urine tests on the suspect revealed he tested positive for ketamine, amphetamine, and methamphetamine, and he has a prior record of drug offences.
