A new luxury cruise ship, the Penang Princess, is set to make its debut from Penang, offering passengers an upscale dining and sightseeing experience along the Strait of Malacca.
Penang Port Commission (PPC) chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin described the project as a milestone for Penang’s maritime tourism, noting that it is the first vessel in the state to combine a high-end restaurant with a scenic sea tour.
He said the Penang Princess has the potential to become a signature attraction for one-of-a-kind events such as sea weddings, corporate functions and cultural showcases.
“This project not only enhances Penang’s tourism offerings but also creates opportunities for local businesses and the supply chain,” Yeoh said.
The initiative is expected to generate significant economic benefits by opening new job opportunities and expanding related sectors such as maritime services, logistics and food supply.
Designed to cater to high-spending tourists, the cruise experience aims to increase visitor stay durations and elevate the island’s appeal as a premium travel destination.
The venture is a collaboration between Ocean World Cruise Holdings Group and Viet Princess Cruiser Corporation, which formalised the partnership through a memorandum of understanding signed today.
