Penang Records Eight Diesel Misappropriation Cases Since January Worth RM415,000

Date:

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Penang has recorded eight cases involving diesel misappropriation since January, with total seizures under Ops Tiris 4.0 amounting to more than RM415,877.

Penang KPDN director S. Jegan said all cases were detected during raids on illegal storage premises in Seberang Perai Selatan. Five lorry drivers in their 30s and 40s were also detained for investigations under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

He added that during the same period, 215 petrol stations across the state were inspected as part of continuous enforcement and monitoring efforts.

Jegan also noted that 126 petrol stations were closely monitored for compliance with the ban on RON95 petrol sales to foreign-registered vehicles, which came into effect recently.

The department further received four complaints related to subsidised fuel irregularities, including alleged misuse of RON95 and suspicious activities at petrol stations.

“Following investigations, three of the complaints were found to be unsubstantiated,” he said, adding that one diesel-related case is still under monitoring by KPDN.

He said enforcement efforts have been strengthened with the deployment of 135 officers at strategic locations, alongside continuous patrols, intelligence gathering, and special operations. Integrated operations with other enforcement agencies are also ongoing.
