Police have arrested the driver of a Perodua Bezza who allegedly fled the scene after colliding with a motorcyclist at a traffic light on December 29.
Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali said the suspect was taken into custody yesterday evening.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless and dangerous driving. The offence carries a maximum jail term of five years and a minimum fine of RM15,000.
A 24-second video of the incident, which went viral yesterday, shows the car striking the motorcycle and sending the rider tumbling onto the pavement. The driver is then seen driving away without stopping to assist the victim.
