A 37-year-old man will be charged in court over his alleged involvement in a series of mischief cases that disrupted the operation of multiple Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) across several locations.
Between April 27 and 29, 2026, police received reports from a bank regarding repeated disruptions affecting ATM services at various outlets, including Battery Road, Chinatown, Tanjong Katong, Woodlands, Toa Payoh, Marina Bay and Paya Lebar.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was captured on CCTV footage allegedly placing a piece of tissue paper beneath his bank card before inserting it into the ATM card slot. When the card was withdrawn, the tissue reportedly remained inside the machine, leading to operational issues and service disruption.
As a result, several ATMs were rendered temporarily unusable and required rectification works to restore normal functionality.
Following further investigations and analysis of surveillance footage, officers from the Central Police Division identified and arrested the man on April 30, 2026.
He is expected to be charged on May 2, 2026, for the offence of mischief causing disruption to essential services. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
