Police Deny Shooting At Dataran Nilai, Clarify Viral Video Shows Arrest Operation

Date:

Police have denied claims that a shooting incident occurred near Dataran Nilai on Saturday night, stating instead that a viral video actually shows an arrest operation involving four individuals.

Nilai District Police Chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said the four suspects, including two siblings, were detained at around 10pm in connection with a robbery case in Johor.

He said the Nilai District Police Headquarters (IPD) received public attention on a viral video showing a police operation at Dataran Nilai, Putra Point, earlier today.

“The operation involved the arrest of suspects who attempted to flee, resulting in a brief struggle before all of them were successfully detained,” he said in a statement.

Johari stressed that no gunshots were fired during the operation, contrary to claims circulated on social media.

Following the operation, police arrested three men and a woman, all locals aged between 22 and 28, believed to be involved in robbery and snatch theft cases in Sagil, Tangkak, Johor.

He added that police also seized two vehicles, including a Perodua Myvi believed to have been used in the crimes, along with several mobile phones and other items linked to the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code.

Johari also urged the public not to spread unverified information or make speculation about the viral video, as it could cause unnecessary public alarm.
