Police Detain Two Suspects in Kuching Vehicle Theft Case

Date:

Police have arrested two local men, aged between 51 and 58, in connection with the theft of a vehicle reported missing in the Jalan Datuk Wee Kheng Chiang area here.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a report regarding the missing vehicle was lodged by a 48-year-old local man on Dec 28.

“Initial investigations indicated that the theft was believed to have been carried out by two unknown suspects,” he said in a statement.

Following intelligence gathering, a team from the Kuching District Criminal Investigation Division (CID) arrested both men in two separate operations on Dec 30. One suspect was detained in the Taman Hui Sing area here, while the other was arrested in Kota Samarahan.

Further investigations confirmed the involvement of both suspects in the case, and background checks revealed that they have previous criminal records, including offences related to vehicle theft, ACP Alexson said.

Police also seized several items believed to be linked to the case to aid further investigations. Urine screening tests conducted on the suspects showed that one of them tested positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of between one and seven years’ imprisonment, and may also include a fine upon conviction.

Police advised the public to remain vigilant and enhance the security of their vehicles. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to come forward by contacting the nearest police station, the Kuching District Police Headquarters Control Centre at 082-244444, or the investigating officer, Sgt Mohammad Azril Morshidi, at 019-8183841.
