Police have classified the discovery of a body wrapped in a package by a riverside near the Orang Asli cemetery in Kampung Kerawat, Simpang Pulai, yesterday as a murder case.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, said forensic examination revealed that the victim is believed to have died from being struck with a blunt object.
“The investigation confirmed that the victim was an adult male, but his identity has yet to be established,” he told reporters today.
Abang Zainal added that no arrests have been made so far, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Yesterday, a 28-year-old local man discovered a package suspected to contain human remains by the riverbank near the Orang Asli Cemetery at Kampung Kerawat, along Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands.
Initial investigations by police at the scene, together with the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters’ Forensic Unit, confirmed that the package, which was caught on a tree trunk by the river, contained a body. The victim’s identity is still unknown.
