Police have initiated an investigation into allegations of efforts to topple the government and disrupt national stability.
Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that a report was lodged yesterday, prompting immediate action by the authorities.
The probe is being handled by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit under the Prosecution/Legal Division of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman.
The case is being investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which pertains to activities deemed detrimental to parliamentary democracy. If convicted, those found guilty face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
Mohd Khalid said investigations are ongoing and urged the public to refrain from speculation, stressing the importance of allowing due process to take its course in accordance with the country’s criminal justice principles.
The allegations are understood to involve a prominent local figure as well as an international media agency, though further details have yet to be disclosed.
