A police officer was injured while his wife was killed after their sedan was shot at by four attackers in Thailand, in an incident reported in Pattani province recently.
According to Thaiger, the shooting took place at around 3.30pm local time near a school in Yarang district.
Authorities confirmed that the victim, Fatimoh Yango, 35, was found dead in the rear seat of the vehicle.
Her husband, Adul Yeesulong, 38, a police officer, was shot in the leg and is currently receiving treatment at Yarang Hospital.
The couple’s two-month-old baby was also injured by bullet fragments during the attack.
Police recovered several shell casings, including AK-47 rifle rounds and 9mm bullets, from the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the family was travelling to pick up their two other children from school when they were ambushed.
The attackers, believed to be wearing headscarves to disguise themselves, were reportedly waiting by the roadside on two motorcycles before opening fire on the vehicle.
Authorities believe the suspects are linked to insurgent groups in southern Thailand and may also be connected to a previous attack that killed a police officer on May 4.
