Police Probe Man Who Sat Cross-Legged on NSE, Causing Traffic Jam

Date:

Police are investigating an incident involving a man who was seen sitting cross-legged on the North–South Expressway (NSE), causing traffic congestion at Kilometre 290.

Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said authorities were alerted to the incident after a video of the man circulated on social media. The video was uploaded on Facebook at about 3.55pm on Saturday (Jan 24).

Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred at around 12.30pm last Thursday. The man, believed to be a lorry driver, had reportedly parked his vehicle along the emergency lane before sitting cross-legged in the first lane of the expressway for unknown reasons.

“The act caused traffic congestion and posed a danger not only to the individual involved but also to other road users,” Naazron said in a statement.

Police are investigating the case under Section 48(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for obstructing traffic, as well as Section 336 of the Penal Code for acts that endanger the safety of others.

Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to come forward to assist in the investigation. They may contact the nearest police station, the Kajang District Control Centre at 03-8911 4243, or the investigating officer, Inspector Saifudin Saadun, at 011-2111 9379.

Authorities also reminded motorists to act responsibly and avoid behaviour that could endanger lives or disrupt traffic flow on major highways.
