Police have dismantled a syndicate involved in the illegal storage and distribution of frozen meat after seizing 34 tonnes of pork carcasses and 97 boxes of chicken without halal certification in a major raid on Wednesday.
The operation, codenamed Op Taring Chiller, was led by the Wildlife Crime Bureau/Intelligence and Special Investigation Division (WCB/PSK) under Bukit Aman’s Internal Security and Public Order Department, based on intelligence and surveillance findings.
The coordinated raid involved multiple agencies including the Selangor Veterinary Department, Ministry of Health (MOH), Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), Malaysia Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS), Royal Malaysian Customs Department and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
Bukit Aman WCB/PSK commander Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar said the operation at 10.50am resulted in the arrest of 32 individuals, including three company owners and managers aged between 22 and 59.
He said checks revealed that 29 of those detained were foreign nationals from Indonesia, Bangladesh and Myanmar, with offences including misuse of passes, overstaying and lack of valid identification documents.
All suspects were taken to the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters for further action.
Authorities also seized three weighing machines and three one-tonne lorries, with the total value of confiscated items, including vehicles and goods, estimated at RM1.9 million.
Investigations are being carried out under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Trade Descriptions (Halal Certification and Marking) Order 2012 by JAKIM, the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, the Income Tax Act 1967, and the Weights and Measures Act 1972.
Officials said compounds were issued to the premises’ management, while samples of chicken were taken for further laboratory analysis.
