Police are still investigating the case of a two-year-old boy who died after allegedly being left inside his mother’s car along Jalan Tunku Hassan here last Tuesday.
Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said that statements have so far been recorded from seven witnesses to assist in the investigation.
“Investigations are ongoing, and to date, statements have been taken from seven individuals, including the child’s father, family members, and independent witnesses.
“The mother, who was previously detained, has since been released on police bail after her statement was recorded,” he told Sinar Harian on Friday.
Alzafny added that police are currently awaiting the toxicology report, after the post-mortem examination was unable to determine the cause of death and classified it as ‘undetermined’.
He said investigations are continuing under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
“I am unable to confirm how long it will take for the toxicology results to be obtained, but it may take some time.
“I urge the public to refrain from speculating on the incident out of respect for the sensitivity of the victim’s family,” he said.
Earlier reports stated that the toddler was believed to have been left inside the car for approximately nine hours, from 8am to 5pm.
The incident reportedly came to light when the child’s 35-year-old mother, who works at a bank in the area, returned to her vehicle after finishing work.
