Two young Indian women, aged 20 and 22, arrived in Malaysia full of hope, believing they had secured jobs as tailors—only to fall into a horrifying trap set by a fellow countryman. Instead of starting a new life, they were forced into excessive labour, paid nothing for their work, and were brutally beaten when they refused to continue.
The nightmare came to light when the Bukit Aman Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Division (D3), together with the Wangsa Maju District Police, launched a rescue operation last night at 9 PM at a residence in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur. During the raid, police successfully rescued the two victims and arrested a 30-year-old Indian national believed to be both their employer and recruiter.
According to police, the suspect had initially promised the victims legitimate tailoring jobs with a monthly salary of RM2,000. However, upon their arrival in Malaysia in December last year, the women were subjected to forced labour and received no wages.
Things took a darker turn when the victims decided to stop working in protest. The suspect allegedly assaulted them with an electric fan, causing injuries to their knees and foreheads.
The case is now being investigated under Section 13 of the 2007 Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
