A video showing a traffic police officer stopping an ambulance to allow several tour buses carrying VIPs to pass has gone viral, sparking widespread public outrage.
The incident reportedly occurred near Malacca General Hospital, at the busy intersection under the flyover leading to the hospital entrance.
The 50-second clip, uploaded on a Facebook group on December 11, shows a police officer directing traffic as four police-escorted tour buses approach. Despite the ambulance having its sirens activated, the officer instructs it to stop while clearing the way for the buses.
The footage drew strong criticism from netizens, many of whom questioned the priorities of the traffic police officer, noting that the delay could jeopardise the life of a patient in distress. Comments included, “VIPs are always treated like kings,” and “Why didn’t everyone just honk at the officer?”
Some questioned whether the car recording the video had obstructed the emergency lane, but the driver later clarified that they had already moved aside to make way for the ambulance.
As of 3pm today, authorities have yet to issue any official statement regarding the incident or explain why an emergency vehicle was made to wait. The identities of the VIPs and the purpose of their convoy remain unknown.
