A sport utility vehicle (SUV) was caught on video speeding and overtaking recklessly on a highway while using its hazard lights and sounding its horn, sparking widespread attention on social media.
Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Zainul, head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Unit, said the police have not received any official reports regarding the incident. However, he confirmed that the driver’s actions were illegal.
The incident occurred yesterday around 6 pm on the Lumbu Highway, where other road users recorded the SUV’s erratic behaviour.
Police have reviewed the video, but the vehicle’s license plate could not be identified, and no owner information was found in the social media post’s comments section. The investigation is ongoing.
“Regardless of the circumstances, the driver’s conduct violates the law,” Mohamad Zainul stressed.
Authorities are investigating under Section 119(2) of the 1987 Road Transport Act and Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a police officer. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Kuala Lumpur traffic police headquarters hotline at 03‑20719999.
