RM2.2 Million Worth Of Fireworks Seized In Sarawak Ops Taring Charlie

The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) seized fireworks and firecrackers worth RM2.2 million during Ops Taring Charlie, conducted at four separate locations from Monday to Wednesday.

Sarawak Brigade Commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said that in a raid in Kuching, a 35-year-old local man was arrested along with fireworks and firecrackers valued at RM159,448.

In Lubok Antu, an 18-year-old local man was detained, with authorities seizing 5,676 units of fireworks and firecrackers estimated to be worth RM371,700.

Lim said that in Bintulu, a 40-year-old local man was also arrested together with 8,778 units of fireworks and firecrackers, as well as a vehicle, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM1,572,135.

In Sibu, another local man aged 49 was arrested, with fireworks and firecrackers worth RM107,262 seized.

All suspects and seized items have been handed over to the respective district police headquarters for further action, and the cases are being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
